Lately we've been noticing a rash on Honey Bunny's tummy ... it's not there all the time, but it is there daily.

Trying a new food
9/14/2009 4:16:58 AM
On September 10, 2009, I went to PETCO to see if I could decide on a new food to try - instead of the Royal Canin she has been on for several months.  I went to the counter with two different kinds in my hands, but after some assistance and recommendations, I settled on Natural Balance Original Ultra Reduced Calorie Formula.  I bought a small 5 pound bag so that we could try it out.  Most of the foods for big dogs come in the super large bags.  I went with the Natural Balance brand because it is more so for allergy-sensitive dogs.  I chose the Reduced Calorie since Honey Bunny is a bit overweight and even though we exercise daily, it doesn't seem she's getting any thinner or lighter.
Background on Skin Issue(s)

Honey Bunny has had some skin issues for as long as I can remember (she was adopted in Jan. 2008).  My concern was initially documented on 9/15/08.  She had some hairloss on her rear legs and some small bumps/masses too.

On 12/8/08, one of her vet docs recommended feeding her Royal Canin Maxi for Boxers.  She said that Pits and Boxers have similar skin types.

On 5/18/09, we decided to have H.B.'s thyroid checked to see if perhaps the hair loss was being caused by something there.  Her Results:  T4 within normal range at 2.0

On 8/7/09, we decided to have a more focused thyroid test done to see if maybe there was something "off" just a little that would explain the hair loss.  Her Results:  within normal limits

Honey is Naked!

I am having the hardest time finding clothes for Honey! I've found all kinds of small dog apparel on the web and in stores. Why can't big dogs dress up too? I consider her a large dog, weighing in at about 60 lbs. I have found some large and x-large clothing, but they are still too small for Honey. By the way, I am looking for t-shirts and sweatshirts mostly, at an affordable price. Affordable to me is $5 to $15 each. Old Navy usually fits Honey, but they have a limited selection and so far everything I've gotten from PETCO is too small. Help!!! My Honey is left only wearing her birthday suit!
Vet Re-visit (1-21-08)

Honey's nasal infection is gone...HOORAY!
Once again she was so very well-behaved that other parents were impressed and even a bit envious.
She was able to get her rabies shot, finally...and she is scheduled for spaying on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008. She has to stay overnight and I will miss her sweet self every second that she is gone! I've become very attached to my Honey Bunny; she's so irresistible and precious.
I had her wearing her Old Navy jacket since it was quite chilly today ... she tolerates my dressing her even though it's not necessarily a daily routine.
I've only recently become aware of Pits' incredible intelligence. I knew they were smart, but not to the capacity that I've seen first hand. When we're in the car and approaching a curve, Honey already knows to shift her weight and actually leans into it. Even though I know that she is going to anticipate the road, I still hold out my arm to protect her just in case. And still, knowing that she will prepare herself, I find her accommodations absolutely adorable!

Vet Re-visit (1-14-08)

Honey and I went back to the vet on Monday for her re-check. She's doing much better, but still sneezing a lot. Her doctor gave her an injection to help with inflammation, refilled her antibiotic, and added another antibiotic. It's been a couple of days since starting the new medication and I can confidently say that Honey is doing much better! We are due for another re-check next week; hopefully we will return home with no medications!
This girl is a cutie and a sweetheart, I'm glad we were able to help her live because she deserves it. It's only been 11 days since she joined our family and she has already added so much to my life.

Our First Vet Trip

Honey was great! During the ride to and from the vet she was excellent (it's about a 20 mile drive). While at the vet she was very well-behaved and very friendly...no growls, no teeth showing, no barks. Honey has a nasal infection and was given antibiotics; we'll be re-visiting the vet next week.
She weighs 52 lbs. and is between 1 and 2 years old. She has amber-colored eyes that match her coat perfectly. Her stomach is mostly white with brown dots and her tail is white-tipped. Honey has a smile on her face all the time, she's so cute! Her pictures don't do her justice. What a shame it would have been to allow anyone to euthanize this girl!
